Vision:

The vision of an IEEE student branch at Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal, India is to foster a vibrant and inclusive community of students who are passionate about advancing technology and its applications for the benefit of society. The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is a global professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, and its student branches aim to cultivate a similar spirit among students.

Mission:

The mission of an IEEE student branch at Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal, India is to provide a supportive and enriching environment for students interested in electrical engineering, instrumentation, electronics, computer science, and related fields. The mission encompasses several key objectives:

Objective:-

Education and Skill Development: The student branch aims to enhance the technical knowledge and skills of its members through various educational activities. This includes organizing workshops, seminars, technical talks, and hands-on training sessions that cover the latest advancements in technology and industry trends.

Professional Growth and Networking: The student branch strives to create opportunities for students to develop their professional skills and expand their network. It organizes events that facilitate interactions with industry professionals, encourages participation in conferences and competitions, and offers resources for career development, such as resume workshops and interview preparation.

Leadership and Teamwork: The student branch encourages students to take on leadership roles and work collaboratively in teams. It provides opportunities for students to organize and manage events, lead projects, and develop their interpersonal and managerial skills.

Community Outreach and Service: The student branch aims to contribute to the local community by leveraging technology for social impact. It organizes initiatives such as workshops, mentorship programs, and technology awareness campaigns to promote STEM education, bridge the digital divide, and address societal challenges.

Collaboration with Industry and Research: The student branch facilitates connections between students and the industry by organizing industrial visits, internships, and industry-academia collaborations. It also encourages research and innovation among its members, providing support for research projects and promoting interaction with faculty members and research organizations.

Ethical and Professional Conduct: The student branch promotes ethical behavior and professional conduct among its members. It encourages adherence to IEEE’s Code of Ethics, which emphasizes honesty, integrity, fairness, and respect for intellectual property.

By pursuing this mission, the student branch aims to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for successful careers in their chosen fields, while also instilling a sense of responsibility towards society.

Club Activities

National Technology Day was celebrated on 11 May 2023. Dr. Dipanwita Haldar, Scientist, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun delivered talk on “Remote Sensing Technology for Agriculture” and interacted with the participants.
National Technology Day was celebrated on 11 May 2022 on the theme “Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future”. Dr. Arun K. Singh, Chair IEEE Chandigarh Subsection delivered an interactive talk on “Nanotechnology for Futuristic Applications”
IEEE Student Branch of the institute organized a workshop “Socializing Through Social Media” on 2 September 2021. A total of 74 participants attended the workshop. Prof. Celia Shahnaz, 2021-23 Chair, IEEE Signal Processing Society Women in Signal Processing Committee interacted with the participants of the workshop
IEEE Student Branch at Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal organized a one-week short term course on “Enhancement of Computer Skill for Office Staff” during 24-30 May 2021. The daily one-hour hands-on sessions on Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, printing, scanning, drafting emails, data presentation tools, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides were conducted, followed by a quiz, discussion, and feedback. A total of 32 staff members from various departments and sections of the institute attended the course
IEEE Student Branch at Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology organized a Webinar during lockdown period on “Modeling and Simulation” on May 27, 2020. Prof. Shailendra Jain, Director, SLIET, Longowal and Dr. Ali Kharrazi from International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, Laxenburg, Austria delivered talks on the theme of modeling and simulation. A total of 74 participants attended the webinar. The talks were followed by discussion on how to use digital technologies in modeling and simulation for the development of new cost-effective products during lockdown
IEEE Student Branch at Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology organized a Webinar on “Faculty and Students Development during Lockdown” on May 17, 2020. Prof. Celia Shahnaz, a TEDx speaker and Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section delivered a talk on utilizing the online resources for the development of professional, technical and managerial skills during lockdown. A total of 52 participants attended the webinar

The institute celebrated National Technology Day on 11 May 2022 on the theme “Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future”. Dr. Arun K. Singh, Chair IEEE Chandigarh Subsection delivered an interactive talk on “Nanotechnology for Futuristic Applications”. Dr. Dipanwita Haldar, Scientist, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun delivered talk on “Remote Sensing Technology for Agriculture” and interacted with the participants. The event was coordinated by Dr. Ashwani Kumar Aggarwal, IEEE Branch counsellor at SLIET.

  • Modular Course on Programming in MATLAB started on August 11, 2018
  • Govt. School visit in Duggan on 31/10/2018 under Village Development Programme
  • One day workshop on Space Science Research on January 8, 2019 jointly with SAC, ISRO, Ahmedabad.
