The Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology had organized the Standards Writing Competition under the Aegis of BIS Standards Club on September 11^th 2024 and the event was coordinated by Standards Club SLIET. The objective of the competition was to improve participants’ awareness and understanding about standards through competition. The event is designed to involve students’ participants in the intricacies of standards creation, featuring discussions relevant to the competition’s theme. The event started with a welcome ceremony of all the guests, marking the start of an enlightening day. The day began with informative speeches about BIS and Indian provisions by Faculty Advisor Asst. Prof. Divesh Bharti, Dean SW Dr. A.S. Dhaliwal, Dean Academics Dr. A.S. Shahi. Mr. Kushagra Jindal (Scientist-C, Deputy Director) and Mr. Saurabh Verma (Deputy Director) from BIS in their address emphasized the significance of Standards for the country and consumers. Dr. A.S. Shahi, Dean Academics, SLIET, highlighted the importance of standards in the daily routine activities by discussing various examples and encouraged young future engineers to actively participate in such competitions to develop their intellectual prowess and technical acumen. During the closing remarks, Asst. Prof. Divesh Bharti expressed gratitude to BIS for their collaboration and support in organizing the event and other delegates for their contribution. The BIS team then organized a written test focusing on BIS standards to assess the participants’ knowledge and comprehension of the standards that play vital role in various aspects of our lives. The event was followed by the expert talk by officials from BIS on giving the understanding of functioning of BIS and its importance. Attendees had a great time during the tea break, which allowed for networking and conversations with peers and experts of BIS. The standout event was the Standards Writing Competition. Prof. Divesh Bharti (Faculty Advisor).The Standards Writing Competition provided a valuable opportunity for aspiring engineers and technology enthusiasts to explore the field of standards writing. The event emphasized the significance of standards in different engineering fields and provided a competitive yet educational setting for all attendees. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from students across various departments, highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of standardization.
