Cyber Club

The Cyber Club at Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) has been established in accordance with directives issued by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

This initiative is aligned with the national vision of promoting cyber hygiene, cyber awareness, and cybercrime prevention, particularly among students in higher educational institutions.

The Cyber Club functions as a dedicated student–faculty body, fostering a secure digital ecosystem through education, training, awareness campaigns, and institutional engagement in cybersecurity practices.

National Cyber Awareness Alignment

The club actively supports and promotes initiatives such as:

  1. Cyber Hygiene Practices promoted by I4C
  2. Awareness campaigns under Cyber Dost Initiative (“Stay Safe Online”)
  3. Citizen-centric cybercrime reporting via the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal
  4. Digital safety guidelines for students, educators, and professionals

 

These initiatives emphasize prevention, awareness, and timely reporting of cyber incidents.

The Cyber Club is committed to achieving the following:

  2. Raise awareness about cyber threats, frauds, and preventive measures
  3. Conduct training programs, workshops, and seminars in collaboration with national agencies
  4. Encourage adherence to cyber hygiene practices, including: Strong password management, Multi-factor authentication, Safe browsing habits, Protection against phishing and malware
  5. Support ethical digital behavior and cyber responsibility
  6. Assist in understanding, preventing, and reporting cybercrimes
  7. Serve as a nodal center for cybersecurity awareness and activities within SLIET

 

Cyber Safety Guidelines (Stay Safe Online)

In alignment with national awareness campaigns, the Cyber Club promotes the following essential cyber safety practices:

1. Personal Cyber Hygiene

(a) Use strong and unique passwords for different accounts

(b) Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever possible

(c) Regularly update software and operating systems

 

2. Safe Internet Practices

  1. Avoid clicking on unknown or suspicious links
  2. Verify website authenticity before sharing sensitive information
  3. Be cautious while using public Wi-Fi networks

 

3. Social Media Awareness

  1. Avoid oversharing personal information
  2. Regularly review privacy settings
  3. Be vigilant about fake profiles and impersonation

 

4. Cyber Fraud Prevention

  1. Never share OTP, PIN, or banking credentials
  2. Verify financial requests through official channels
  3. Report suspicious transactions immediately

 

5. Reporting Cybercrime

  1. Incidents can be reported through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal
  2. Timely reporting helps prevent further damage and supports law enforcement
