Dr Singh has been incessantly participating and representing SLIET at Baja SAE India as Mentor of the team ‘JUNKYARD WARRIORS’.

SHORT TERM COURSE ATTENDED; 11 weeks
BAJA SAE INDIA PROJECT: Faculty Advisor of ‘SAE [Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)] India SLIET Collegiate Club’ (inception 2008) and SLIET team ‘Junkyard Warriors’ , since 2008. The team has been participating in Baja SAE India event. The event is a collegiate competition sponsored by the SAE India. The BAJA SAE India series is an event organized for young undergraduate aspiring engineering students wherein, the students are to design, fabricate and engineer a single-seater four-wheeled off-roader ‘All Terrain Vehicle (ATV)’, completely from scratch. Such outdoor platforms makes the students step away from the class-room theories and bring about first hand experience of building the ATV’s. The team has participated in Baja SAE India event four times with their self -fabricated ‘ATVs’ since 2009, along with other teams from various engineering colleges from all over India including IITs, NITs & other premier institutes. The team ‘ Junkyard Warriors’ have been adjudged Overall Winner at ‘JK Tyre Baja SAE India 2009’ (prize money 7.5 lacs) and ‘J K Tyre Baja SAE India 2011’ (prize money 6.0 lacs and a gift of ‘ ATV’ make Powersport), in merely four years of participation. In addition, the team also bagged Maneuverability Award (2009); and Durability award (2009) and 1ST Runner Up in Durability Award (2011). The funds were raised through sponsorship from CNEB ( 2009 & 2010) and JCBL (2011).No financial assistance was taken from the institute.
VIRTUAL BAJA SAE INDIA 2013: Faculty Advisor of the SLIET team ‘JUNKYARD WARRIORS’ that participated in the cut throat competition and competed with 262 teams from various engineering colleges all around India including IITs, NITs & other premier institutes, at recently held VIRTUAL BAJA SAE INDIA event at Bangalore Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, Karnataka on 24th & 25th August 2012. The SLIET team was guided to design an ‘All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV)’ after undergoing prototyping, modelling, designing, finite element analysis and simulation using the automotive skills and knowledge of software’s. The esteemed panel of judges evaluated the team on their Design Methodology, Vehicle Structure, Power-train, CAE, Ergonomics & Aesthetics, Project Plan, Design Validation Plan and Cost Evaluation, amongst other parameters. On the basis of Virtual Baja result, the team qualified and is enlisted in the list of 120 shortlisted teams. Consequent to the participation, within three months, the teams had to race against time to shape their virtual concepts into reality and participate in Baja SAE India 2013, while maintaining their educational priorities.
BAJA SAE INDIA 2013: The goal for the team members of ‘Junkyard Warriors’ under the guidance of Faculty Advisor was ‘to design, fabricate, and race an off-road vehicle (ATV) that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain. The team members fabricated solely the ‘ATV’, in the Centre for Innovation Lab., in the ME department. The SLIET team ‘JUNKYARD WARRIORS’ alongwith their All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) ( # 87) participated in Mahindra Baja SAE India 2013, held at NATRAX (National Automotive Test Tracks) facility of NATRIP (National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Program), Pithampur, Indore (14-19 th Feb` 2013), competing with 120 teams from various engineering institutes all over India including IIT & NITs.
The ‘ATV’ ( # 87) was ranked for Design & Aesthetics, paint and got appreciation from Sh. Dilip Chabaria, the great car designer. The ‘ATV’ survived the roughest terrain in the Endurance test run of 3 hrs, without any fail. The team was ranked at eighth position out of 120 teams.
Virtual Baja SAE India 2014: The SLIET team “JUNKYARD WARRIORS” participated in the recently held VIRTUAL BAJA SAE INDIA 2014 (26-27th July 2013) at Sri Venkateshawra College of Engineering, Bangluru.
Virtual BAJA is a national level presentation event, in which the teams are to present their design of the vehicle to a panel of well experienced judges from eminent companies. The event is a pre‐qualifier to participation in the BAJA SAEINDIA 2014 event. A total of 327 teams participated from all over India including IITs & NITs .
The SLIET team qualified the Virtual BAJA and has been selected, and enlisted in the list of 125 shortlisted teams . The teams were selected based on their knowledge of the basic Automotive Design Technology and about the SAE Baja vehicle design and manufacturing requirements.
Consequent to the participation, within three months, the team “Junkyard Warriors” (24 team members) had to race against time to shape their virtual concepts into reality and participated in Baja SAE India 2014, while maintaining their educational priorities.
BAJA SAEINDIA 2014: SLIET team “ under the guidance of Dr Shankar Singh, Associate Professor (Mechanical) as Faculty Advisor (FA) participated in Mahindra Baja SAE India 2014 (from 20th –23th Feb` 2014) held at the National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP) facility at Pithampur near Indore. The SLIET ‘ATV’ (#6) was put to tests for designing, stability, manufacturing, acceleration, fatigue, braking etc. through Static test, Dynamic Tests and Endurance tests (~ 4 hrs race). Around 327 engineering colleges from all over India including IITs, NITs and other premier engineering institutes had registered for Baja SAE India 2014 event and, of these, 125 qualified for the finals, and 106 finally competed on the track.
The endurance track is a long circuit of loose dirt which had numerous hurdles like slurry pit and a ditch that literally split the shocks from the vehicles. The SLIET team`s ATV #6 (Junkyard Warriors) finished maximum number of laps in 4 hours and bagged the first prize in Endurance race (Durability Award) with a cash prize money of Rs. 2 lakhs.
The SLIET team ‘GREEN RANGERS’ under the guidance of undersigned, participated for the first time, in Virtual EFFICYCLE 2014 on 21st June 2014 at KIET, Ghaziabad. EFFICYCLE 2014, a student competition by Society of Automotive Engineers-Northern India Section (SAE-NIS), will task engineering students all over India to design and build human-powered vehicle namely “EFFI-CYCLE”. Out of 260 teams that registered for Effi-Cycle 2014,
The SLIET team ‘GREEN RANGERS ‘ have also been shortlisted and will participate in the main event by undergoing fabrication and testing of the Effi-Cycle. 90 teams have been shortlisted. The main event was hosted at UIET Chandigarh in October 2014. The SLIET team have bagged the Best Design Award and a cash prize Rs. 25,000/-; Ist position in Endurance Race (Durabilty Award) and a cash prize Rs. 30,000/-. The team was also ranked at 3rd overall winner (out of 90 teams) and a cash prize Rs. 50,000/-. The efficycle ‘FATEH’ stood first amongst 90 teams for a two hours endurance race.
Virtual Baja SAE 2015 :
The SLIET team ‘Junkyard Warriors’ under the guidance of the undersigned designed the ‘ATV 2015”, and qualified the Virtual Baja SAE India 2015, held on 1st-2nd August 2014 at Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad.
Nearly 321 teams registered and participated at Virtual Baja SAE and nearly 115 qualified. Only four teams have qualified the virtual Baja SAE from Punjab. The complete list is enclosed.
Consequent to the participation, within three months, the teams had to race against time to shape their virtual concepts into reality and participate in Baja SAE India 2015 (19th -22nd Feb 2015), while maintaining their educational priorities.
BAJA SAEINDIA 2015: SLIET team ‘Junkyard Warriors’(23 member) under the guidance of Dr Shankar Singh, Associate Professor (Mechanical) as Faculty Advisor (FA) participated at 8th edition of the Mahindra Baja SAEINDIA 2015 held at the NATRIP (National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project) facility at Pithampur, near Indore from 19th & 24th February, 2015. The team of engineering students design, build and race All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) that can withstand harsh conditions in off-road racing.
This year saw 8000 students participated from all over India including IITs, NITs and other premier engineering institutes, working towards the 2015 theme ‘Beyond Boundaries’. SLIET team ‘Junkyard Warriors’ bagged the second prize in Endurance race (Durability Award). The SLIET ‘ATV’ (#5) easily completed the Endurance race of 4 hrs, without any breakdown.
